Sports

At Roto Ngahere we offer a range of sporting avenues for our tamariki, whether they be within school hours or extra-curricular activities falling outside of school hours.

We encourage our tamariki to be active with classes taking part in various PE based activities throughout the week.  Our Auraki (senior) school students take part in ‘Senior School Sports’ each week with a focus on a wide variety of sporting endeavours.  We try to hold a whole school sporting event each term where possible.  This is usually in the form of a fun run, cross-country event, winter sports day, and athletics day.

Using our Tūmeke Values (Respect, He Ākonga, Responsibility) is a very important part of our sporting culture to promote fair play and sportsmanship no matter the occasion, whether it be a lunchtime game of soccer or representing the school at a inter-school event.

Extra-Curricular Sports (outside of school hours)

We have several sports on offer that our tamariki can take part in either after school, or at the weekend depending on the sport.  In 2021 we are offering our tamariki the opportunity to take part in netball, basketball, touch, soccer, futsal or volleyball.  Sports on offer each term are promoted at the end of the previous term by way of a newsletter going home with students that show an interest in a chosen sport.

We are so appreciative of the continued parent/whānau support we get whether it be by coaching and/or managing a team, making sure students get to and from a game or providing a friendly supportive face on the sidelines.

Whaea Calah is our extra-curricular sports coordinator who can be contacted via email at calahr@forestlake.school.nz if you have any questions about extra-curricular sports.

2021 Rippa-Rugby Tournament

In 2021 the Kura is once again taking part in the annual ‘Rippa Rugby Tournament’ against other competing Kura at Swarbrick Park. The tournament is for our Year 1 to 4 tamariki who wish to play.  Students will travel to the park via bus, and parents are invited to join us but will need to organise their own transport to the venue.

Our Teina (Junior) and Waenga (Middle school) classes are basing their PE lessons around Rippa Rugby to help those competing to improve their skills.

Mark the date on your calendar now and come along and support our tamariki on a fun-filled day.
