Soccer Update

Mon Mar 20 03:16pm

Kia ora Whānau,

Following advice from Waikato Soccer Association we are advising our school community that we will not be registering any soccer teams this year. Waikato Football strongly recommended that students from our school register with local clubs. When you register, they also recommend you advise the club at the time of player registration that your child is from Forest Lake School and would like to play in a team with other players from the school.
Please find below links to clubs based in Hamilton.

Term 2 Basketball

Wed Mar 15 02:52pm

Kia ora whānau,

Term 2 Basketball Notices have been distributed this afternoon to those students who showed an interest. Depending on interest the following year groups will be entered into the Term 2 competiton: Year 1-2, Year 3-4 Year 5-6 and Year 7-8.

Spaces are very limited therefore students will be placed into the team based on who returns and makes payment first. Please only hand the notice to the office with payment. If payment cannot be confirmed at the time of receiving the form it will be put to the side for late processing.

Thank you to our parent volunteers for coaching and managing the teams.

Notification of School Closure

Mon Mar 13 08:46pm

Kia ora koutou,

Industrial Action – NZEI Strike on 16 March 2023.

The NZEI has advised the Forest Lake School Board that its member principal and teachers at our school will be taking strike action on 16th March 2023.

The Board has carefully considered the availability of non-union staff, and unfortunately decided that we can’t provide normal instruction during the strike so the school will officially be closed for instruction on the day of the strike. Accordingly, it’s important that you make alternative arrangements for the care of your child/children during the period of the strike as no supervision can be provided.

We know that this is inconvenient for parents and students alike. Please be assured that student safety is our main concern.

Thank you for your understanding. Please contact the school through Megan Kettle or Greg Hobson on office@forestlake.school.nz if you have any queries relating to this decision.

Thank you for your understanding

Potential Disruption to School

Fri Mar 10 01:51pm

Kia ora koutou,

As you may  have heard through the media there is a proposed strike on Thursday 16th March by some teacher unions.

Unions do not have to give official notification until 3 days prior to the strike so until we hear officially on Monday I cannot confirm what is being reported.

This notice is precautionary so whanau are aware of the potential disruption to school.

Ngaa mihi

Tue Feb 14 03:53pm

Kia ora whānau,

Due to the recent weather disruptions, sport uniforms will now be distributed next week, Monday 20th Feb. This is a reminder that sport uniform agreements must be returned to school this week. If your child’s uniform agreement is not returned they will not receive a uniform.

Basketball games begin this week.
– Year 3&4 FLS Ballers: Wednesday 15th Feb, 5pm at YMCA on crt 2.
– Year 5&6 FLS Giants: Friday 17th Feb, 7:50pm at Fraser High on crt 3
Due to uniforms being distributed next week, we ask that your child wears a black shirt and shorts to their game this week.

Please note: All future game times for all term 1 sports will be shared with you via coaches or managers.

If you have any outstanding sport uniforms at home please return these ASAP to the school office. Without these uniforms students will miss out.

Ngā mihi,

School Closure – 13 February 2023

Mon Feb 13 06:27am

In the interest of safety of students and staff I have decided to close the school today.

This decision has been based on potential increase in traffic congestion, wind damage to trees and to minimise traffic on the roads.

I will be at Kura to ensure no students are present.
Thank you in advance for your support in this unknown situation.
